Becoming a Foster Parent

Fostering abused and neglected children is hard work and challenging. The Foster Family Care Network’s top priority is to help you prepare for this important job. You might wonder why so much is asked of you during this process. It’s because the Network wants to ensure that foster children will be safe and well cared for in their new, temporary homes.

• Attend an information meeting to learn first hand from experienced foster parents.
• Complete the Network application.
• Participate in an assessment and home study.
• Attend and complete the eight-week pre-service training as well as program specific training prior to certification.
• Be certified and sign your contract.
• Welcome a child into your home.
• Go to ongoing training and support sessions.
